Strong winds blew dust across southern Argentina in late May, 2015. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) captured this true-color image on May 20 as it passed over the region.
A light tan plume of dust blows from Lake Colhué Huapi in the north, a shallow lake surrounded by fine clays. Other plumes blow further south along the coast. The darkest, thickest, and longest plume rises east of bright blue Cardiel Lake . The winds are so strong and so broad that the clouds also align with the dust plumes.
