United Arab Emirates, Oman, and the Persian Gulf

On April 22, 2016, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA's Aqua satellite captured this true-color image of the United Arab Emirates, Oman, the Persian Gulf and surrounding features.

The blue waters of the Persian Gulf can be seen in the west. To the north of the Persian Gulf are the tan lands of Iran including the island of Qeshm. The United Arab Emirates sit to the south, and fills the western part of the Musandam Peninsula. The Peninsula juts into the Strait of Hormuz, which separates the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Oman lies in the southeast section of the Peninsula and forms the southern coast of the Gulf of Oman. The Musandam Governate of Oman is found at the tip of the Musandam Peninsula, south of Qeshm.
