On November 13, 2018, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of snow in Utah.
Snow blankets the Rocky Mountain highlands, including the Wasatch Range, Pavant Range, Tushar Mountains, and Uinta Mountains in Utah. Snow also brushes the landscape of southwestern Wyoming which sits in the upper right section of this image. Western Utah is washed in white – but most of that white isn’t snow, but the highly-reflective expanses of salt flats near the shrinking Great Salt Lake. Most of the white belongs to Bonneville Flats which stretch over 30,000 acres and reaches the Utah-Nevada border.
