June 15, 2021 - Clear Skies over Europe

Europe

A nearly cloud-free sky stretched more than 2,000 km (1,240 mi) from Portugal to Germany on June 13, 2021, bringing sunshine and warm temperatures to much of Europe.

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) acquired this true-color image, which covered much of the clear-sky area, on that same day. A patch of low cloud (fog) lies off the northern coast of Spain in the Bay of Biscay in the lower left portion of the image. Portugal sits off the image in the southwest (lower left). Snow-capped peaks of the Pyrenees Mountains straddle the border of Spain and France, while the high elevations of the Alps form a crescent in the southeast.
