Fires in Idaho and Oregon

There were many fires in Idaho and surrounding regions when this image was captured by the MODIS on the Aqua satellite on July 22, 2007. Each fire is represented by a red dot, though many of the fires are easy to find on the image because of the plumes of smoke coming from them.

On the Oregon/Idaho border is the Battle Creek Complex Fire. On the Idaho side of the border are many smaller fires.

Near the southern border of Idaho with Nevada is the Murphy Complex Wildland Fire. This fire was created when the Rowland Fire and the Elk Mountain fire combined into one. This fire is only 20% contained and is 562,278 acres in size. There is more information about this fire on Earth Observatory.
