Tropical Storm Iune (02C) south of Hawaii

On July 11, 2015 the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Terra satellite captured this true-color image of Tropical Storm Iune spinning in the Pacific Ocean south of Hawaii. At the time this image was captured the storm had a cloud-filled central eye and appeared to be elongating as a result of wind shear.

The storm was born on July 10 as a tropical depression south-southeast of the Big Island of Hawaii. It tracked westward away from the islands and dissipated on July 14. It reached tropical storm status late on July 11 and retained that status for less than 24 hours, with maximum sustained winds reaching 40 mph (65 km/h). No damage was reported caused by Tropical Storm Iune.
