Biography:
Dr. Zhang's research interests include satellite remote sensing, data assimilation, atmospheric radiation, climate change, cloud physics, and aerosol and visibility prediction. His recent research has focused on satellite remote sensing of atmospheric aerosols and assimilating the data in near-real-time into weather forecast models. Current research projects include the development of a global near-real-time aerosol optical depth analysis for use in aerosol transport models and the development of an operational global aerosol assimilation package through ingesting satellite aerosol products into aerosol transport models. The goal of this research effort is to improve aerosol and visibility forecasting capability using near-real-time observations.
