Ken Voss
University of Miami
Biography:
Dr. Voss is a Professor, and currently Chairman, of the Physics Department at the University of Miami. He received his Ph.D. in Physics at Texas A&M University in 1984 under Dr. Ed Fry. Following this he did a Post-Doc (and stayed on as a researcher) at the Visibility Laboratory, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD with Mr. Roswell Austin. He has published over 50 articles related to Oceanic and Atmospheric Optics and has developed several instruments to measure unique properties of the in-water and above water light field.
Research Area:
Ken's work focuses on how light scatters from particles in the atmosphere, ocean, and ocean bottom. This includes measurement of elastic and inelastic light scattering in seawater, measurement of the radiance distribution (the directional properties of the light field) in the water and sky (spectral and polarized), measurement of aerosol optical depth in many ways, measurement of imaging properties in seawater. He has also been involved with modeling the polarization sensitivity of MODIS and its impact on ocean color products.
