This image, captured by the MODIS on the Aqua satellite shows Tropical Storm Danny forming in the Atlantic Ocean, east of the Bahamas, on August 26, 2009. By the following day, the storm weakened and was no longer expected to become a hurricane. The storm was thought to possibly make landfall on the US East Coast, but instead, the storm stayed offshore.
By August 29, Danny was downgraded to a tropical depression. On that day, its center of circulation was off the coast of North Carolina. The storm continued to track northward along the coastline, over the following few days, but did little more than cause heavy rainfall, wind, and high surf.
