Fall in the Eastern United States

November has brought fall colors to the eastern United States, as seen in this image, captured by the MODIS on the Aqua satellite on November 8, 2009. The image shows the Great Lakes, on the left side of the image. Canada is to the north. The US states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina run from north to south on the right side of the image. The St. Lawrence Seaway is on the top right of the image.

The blue/green coloration in Lake Erie (at left) is likely due to the calcium carbonate (or chalk) in the water. The amount of it changes seasonally, and when there are increased amounts, it colors the water.
