On November 18, 2011 at 19:10 UTC (2:10 p.m. EST), the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Instrument aboard NASA's Aqua satellite detected fires (in red) in the coastal province of Santa Elena, Ecuador, and further inland (east) in the province of Guayas. Fires also appear to be burning in Machalilla National Park, a preserve in the Ecuadorian Manabí Province.
