Central Europe

On November 18, 2020, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer acquired a true-color image of a late autumn day across Central Europe.

A layer of snow covers the higher elevations of the Alps in the southeast section of the image. A broad bank of morning fog (low cloud) hangs over Italy’s Po Valley south of the Alps and, to the north, a line of fog crosses Switzerland and, in the northeast, lies over the border between Switzerland and Germany. Two puffs of fog also can be seen near the towns of Stuttgart and Kaiserslauten, Germany. To the southwest of those, an area of thin fog stretches across the sky near Dijon, France.
