Dust

On February 21, 2026, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite acquired this true-color image of a massive dust storm across southern China.

Most of the dust appears to rise from the Gobi Desert, a great desert and semidesert region stretching across both Mongolia and China. Dust storms are common in the region, typically moving from the west to the east. On this day, the dust stretched more than 1,200 kilometers (756 miles).
