Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon sweeps across the high plateau country of northern Arizona, stretching over millennia by the action of the Colorado River, the massive crack in the Earth’s surface is one of the most iconic features of the American west.

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired this true-color image centered on the Grand Canyon on April 11, 2026. The lake to the west of the Canyon is Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the United States. Lake Mead was created in the 1930s with the completion of the Hoover Dam.
