Cape Cod enjoyed a warm, sunny summer day on June 27, 2026, but clouds lingered just offshore. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite acquired this true-color image of the scene on that same day.
The thick band of cloud that stretches on a west-to-east axis just south of Cape Cod marks a cold front. As reported by CapeCodWeather.Net, the frontal zone stalled in place on June 26 and remained lingering in place on June 27. With clear skies and warm air temperatures (Wellfleet, Massachusetts registered a high of 80ºF the day this image was captured), the region enjoyed generally pleasant weather. However, regional radar showed pockets of showers extending from Pennsylvania eastward across New Jersey and even some rain over the Atlantic Ocean.
