Tropical Storm Edouard made landfall near Johnson Bayou, Louisiana at 1920 UTC (2:20 p.m. local time) on September 1, 2026, carrying maximum sustained winds of about 60 mph (95 km/h). The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired this true-color image of the storm near the time of landfall when rain-filled convective bands stretched from Baton Rouge, Louisiana (east) to Victoria, Texas.
Tropical Storm Edouard is the third tropical storm to make landfall in this general region this year, following Tropical Storms Arthur and Bertha. Despite the repeated drenching of the Gulf Coast, the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane season has been quiet so far, with no hurricanes forming as of early September 2026. According to The Weather Channel, using NOAA data, the average date of the formation of the first hurricane of the Atlantic Season over the last 60 years was July 27.
