Fall colors dominate the landscape of the Mid-Atlantic states on the eastern coast of the US. This image was acquired by the MODIS on the Terra satellite on November 5, 2007.
The weather on this day was very clear, except for a few clouds west of the Appalachian Mountains which sweep through Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia. There doesn't appear to have been any snow in the mountains at this time. This image, from January 2004 gives a more wintery view of the region. It is interesting to see how the brown and red colors of fall fade into winter, with white snow dotting the mountains.
