Yesterday, the Image of the Day showed dust from the Gobi Desert blowing over the Yellow Sea on March 2, 2008. Today's image, captured by the MODIS on the Terra satellite, shows the same dust storm on the previous day, March 1.
A cloud of tan-colored dust south of Beijing is just beginning to pass over the Bo Hai. The dust is thick enough to completely obscure the land surface below. The ripple pattern near the western edge of the plume results from midair waves of dust.
