Multiple large fires were burning in the Buckland Tableland section of the Great Dividing Range Mountains in eastern Queensland on November 3, 2009, when the MODI) on the Aqua satellite captured this natural-color image. Places where MODIS detected actively burning fire are outlined in red.
Fires have been burning throughout the state since October, like those shown in this image from October 17. The fires here are located to the north of today's featured image.
