MODIS Apparent Visible Wavelength
Overview
The AVW is an optical water classification index, representing a one-dimensional geophysical metric that is inherently correlated to Rrs spectral shape (Vandermeulen et al. 2020). Since the entire visible-range spectrum is utilized in the calculation of AVW, this product ensures that any diagnostic signals present in the Rrs signal are considered, and affords the opportunity to describe and analyze spectral trends in Rrs in terms of a single variable.
