September 13, 2007 - Dust Storm over Iraq

Dust Storm over Iraq

Dust plumes blew over Iraq on September 8, 2007. The MODIS on NASA's Aqua satellite took this picture the same day. In this image, the dust appears as a pale beige plume over slightly darker land surfaces below.

The dust appears especially thick in northern Iraq, roughly 100 kilometers (60 miles) east of the border with Syria. Water bodies under the dust are barely visible.
