Snow in Afghanistan

A mid-December storm brought a layer of white to parts of Afghanistan at the start of the 2018-2019 winter season.

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of the snowy scene on December 21, 2018. Fresh snow sits on the higher elevations of the mountains north of the Registan Desert and south of Kabul.
