 Europe

On March 21, 2019, NASA’s Terra satellite flew over Europe, allowing the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board to acquire a true-color image of the early spring scene.

A thick, large cloud bank hangs over most of the North European Plain and another, thinner cloud bank covers the Mediterranean Sea in the south. Snow covers the high elevations of the Alps, making the mountain range the most prominent physical feature in this image. Streaks of tan, most likely from suspended sediment, color the waters of the Mediterranean Sea northwest of the island of Corsica. Smaller streaks of sediment color the Adriatic Sea, in the east.
