The arc of the range stretches about 1,500 km (932 miles) across seven countries, including Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine, and Romania. More than half of the range is located in Romania. The Carpathians are home to a large population of brown bear, chamois, and lynx across a one of the largest forests Europe.
