December 7, 2025 - Snow in the Northeastern United States

Snow in the NE

A strong Arctic blast swept across the northeastern United States in early December 2025, sending residents scrambling for snow shovels and heavy winter jackets. According to The Weather Channel, wind chills dropped into the single digits and even below zero (Fahrenheit) in widespread locations in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut on December 5. On that same day, AccuWeather reported a low of -22°F (-30°C) in Adirondacks State Park, New York while Mount Washington, New Hampshire—a site well known for extreme weather—was battered by winds gusting as high as 120 mph (193 km/h) and shivered under AccuWeather’s RealFeel temperature estimated at -73°F (-58°C).

With winter officially still two weeks away, the frigid temperatures along with plenty of snow created a distinctly winter-like landscape across the state of New York, as seen in this true-color image acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite on December 5. Lake Ontario sits in the upper left (northwest) of the image and, to the south of the lake New York’s nearly parallel Finger Lakes are surrounded by snow. In the northeast (upper right), the dark trees of Adirondack State Park are partially obscured by cloud. Mount Washington is not visible in this image as it is located well to the east.
