April 8, 2026 - A Sunny Spring Day Over England

Southern England

A rare cloud-free day over England allowed the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite to acquired this true-color image on April 7, 2026.

The United Kingdom (which includes England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) and the country of Ireland are often shrouded in cloud, thanks to abundant water surrounding the islands and their location in the mid-latitudes. According to a 2012 study based on MODIS data, the probability of cloud-free skies on any given day over the island of Great Britain is 21.3 percent, with a maximum probability of 33.3 percent in November and 12.9 percent in March. The island of Great Britain is the location of England, Scotland, and Wales while the nearby island of Ireland is the location of Northern Ireland and the country of Ireland.
