On August 18, 2026, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite acquired this gorgeous true-color image of a sunny late summer day on the Sinai Peninsula. Egypt’s triangle-shaped peninsula is bounded by the Gulf of Suez on the west, the Red Sea (south), the Gulf of Aqaba (east), and shares a land boundary with Israel in the northeast.
The Sinai Peninsula enjoys a sunny climate year-round, with the average hours of sunshine in a day ranging from 7.5 hours in January to 13 hours per day in July, according to WorldData.info. Even with all this sunshine, the Sinai Peninsula is considered one of the cooler regions in Egypt, with an average daily temperature of 29°C (84.2°F), although high temperatures can sometimes routinely soar to 36°C (96.8°F).
The month of August 2026 has been very warm, with only one out of the first 19 days registering a high temperature less than 100°F (37.8°C), according to AccuWeather. They report that coolest day in Dahab, Egypt this August was August 18—the day this image was captured—when the high was 99°F (37.2°C). The forecast for the rest of August predicts temperatures hitting 121°F (49.4°F) by August 26, then remaining above 110°F (43.3°C) through September 5.
