Abstract
The irrigation area in the lower Yellow River Coastal Area is an important food production base. This study was designed to apply the remote sensing to monitor the soil moisture in the irrigation area in the lower Yellow River Coastal Area. People's Victory Canal Irrigation District (PVCID) was selected to research for the soil moisture monitoring. The crop soil moisture index (CSMI) was designed to be CSMI = FSM/CSSM and the remote sensing soil moisture model was constructed to be RSM0-40 = 1-0.505*TVDI. The remote sensing soil moisture model performed well in monitoring the soil moisture in PVCID. PVCID was mainly threatened by the mild drought between April and May in 2011 and 2012. In conclusion, remote sensing performed well in monitoring the soil moisture and it could be applied to guide the irrigation in the irrigation area in the lower Yellow River Coastal Area.
