Saharan Dust over the Caribbean Sea

Saharan dust that blew off the west coast of Africa on June 22, 2007 was seen over the Caribbean Sea on June 26, 2007 . The MODIS instrument on the Terra satellite captured this image on that day. The large island in the image is the countries of the Dominican Republic and Haiti. South America is at the bottom of the image. The dust from Africa was carried west by the trade winds.

Here is an image of the dust approaching South America on June 23. This image shows the original plume blowing off of Africa.
