September 5, 2007 - The Strait of Hormuz

Featured in this image, captured by the MODIS on the Aqua satellite on August 15, 2007, is unique peninsula of land. It separates the Persian Gulf (west) from the Gulf of Oman (east). The waterway between these two bodies is the Strait of Hormuz.

The peninsula itself contains the countries of Oman (the very tip, and the right side), and the United Arab Emirates (on the left). South of these is Saudi Arabia. Black lines denote the country borders. Across the Strait of Hormuz from Oman is Iran.
