June 27, 2008 - Dust Storm Off Australia

Dust off Australia

Fragile-seeming dust plumes blew off the coast of South Australia on June 16, 2008. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite took this picture the same day. In this natural-color image, the tan plumes of dust move in parallel lines toward the south-southeast over the Great Australian Bight. Inland from the coast, South Australia contains substantial sand seas, which likely provided the material for these plumes.
