Tropical Storm Fung-Wong over China

On July 28, 2008, Typhoon Fung-Wong was lashing Taiwan and coastal China with high winds, rain, and storm surge. The Category 2 typhoon had crossed Taiwan, with the center of the storm more or less bisecting the island. This storm hit just a week after tropical storm Kalmaegi killed 19 people and left six others missing on the island.

By the time the storm reached China, the storm's shape and power had been disrupted, though it was still considered a typhoon when the eye of the storm made landfall in Fuqing City on June 28th with 74 mph winds. Fung-Wong was eventually downgraded to a tropical storm, but it did destroy houses and crops, as well as force the evacuation of nearly 400,000 people.
