Dust storms in Afghanistan and Pakistan

On August 10, 2008, the MODIS on NASA’s Terra satellite captured this image of two dust storms. The more northern one is over Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. The region’s dry terrain is a mixture of rugged mountains and sandy or rocky deserts. These landscapes appear tan and brown, while the dust storm is paler. Vegetation along rivers and streams is dull green.

There is another storm to the south in southern Afghanistan and Pakistan.
