Dust Storm over Sudan and the Red Sea

A massive dust storm took several days to move over Sudan in early May 2009. The storm moved across Sudan towards Eritrea on May 7, and May 9. By May 11, the storm covered eastern Sudan, Eritrea, and parts of western Ethiopia. The storm also extended north up to the Red Sea, as you can see in today's featured image, which was captured by the MODIS on the Aqua satellite on May 11, 2009.

In this image, Sudan takes up most of the let half of the image, with Eritrea and Ethiopia near the bottom right. The Red Sea, partially obscured, cuts across the top right corner.
