Tropical Cyclone Cleo

This image captured by the MODIS on the Terra satellite shows Tropical Cyclone Cleo on December 8, 2009. The storm had recently strengthened to a tropical cyclone and developed an eye. The storm had sustained winds near 109 mph with higher gusts.

On December 8, Cleo was out in the southern Indian ocean, moving west-southwest, and in no danger of impacting land. The storm was expected to strengthen the next day, which it did. Cleo's maximum sustained winds on that day were near 115 mph, with gusts to 138 mph on December 9th. By December 10th, the storm had weakened back down to tropical storm status.
