Greenland

The MODIS on the Aqua satellite captured the wintery landscape of Greenland on February 18, 2010. Greenland is located between the Arctic Ocean (to the north) and the Atlantic Ocean - most of the year it is covered in ice and snow. During the summer, parts of the coastline can thaw.

The very southern tip shows a bit of brown land along the coastline, and along the western coast, some brown is visible through the snow and ice. Most of the island is white, which makes the deeply carved coastal fjords and inlets contrast with the deep blue water. There are wispy clouds overhead in the west.
