A clear day over India gave the MODIS on the Aqua satellite this view on February 25, 2009. All the red dots represent fires in the region that were detected by MODIS. They are likely agricultural in nature. There are many fires in Eastern India; on the higher resolution images, you can see the smoke haze from the fires. Nearby, and nearly off the image, sediments in the waters of the Mouths of the Ganges River color the Bay of Bengal light tan.
There are is a cluster of fires further south in the Nallamala Hills region of the Eastern Ghats along India’s Indian Ocean coast (right). Fires also drape down the Western Ghat Mountains on India’s Arabian Sea coast (left).
On the Arabian Sea coast, near the left center edge of the image, the Gulf of Khambhat, filled with sediment, separates the Gujarat Peninsula from the mainland.
