Biography:
Norm Nelson has been a biological oceanographer at UCSB since 2000. He received his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and received a Ph.D. from UCSB in 1994. From 1994 to 2000 he was a postdoctoral researcher and assistant researcher at the Bermuda Biological Station for Research (now the Bermuda Institute for Ocean Sciences), where he is also an adjunct researcher.
Norm specializes in field observations of ocean optics. His research interests include cycling of organic matter in the ocean, primary productivity, UV photochemistry and photobiology, ocean color remote sensing, and planktonic community structure.
