Typhoon Rammasun is shown here in the Phillipine Sea on May 11, 2008, at 1:55 UTC. The image was captured by the MODIS on the Terra satellite. The storm has a very developed eye and eyewall.
The typhoon, which was at one point a Category 3 storm, is headed northwards, towards Tokyo. It not expected to make landfall in Japan, however. The storm is likely to weaken and dissipate over the Pacific Ocean.
