This image, captured by the MODIS on the Terra satellite shows Tropical Cyclone Fanele over Madagascar. Madagascar is an island in the Indian Ocean, off the eastern coast of Africa. Madagascar was actually hit by two tropical cyclones, each coming from a different direction. This image shows Fanele on January 20, 2009, as it hit the western coast of the island.
The other storm was Tropical Cyclone Eric, which made landfall the previous day in the eastern Fenerive-Est region of Madagascar. Local media reported winds of 100 km/hr from Eric.
